Marc Staal: $4M until he becomes a UFA in 2015 3rd rnd pick
for
Martin, Paul » (2011/12) $5,000,000, (2012/13) $5,000,000, (2013/14) $5,000,000, (2014/15) $5,000,000, UFA
This deal gives the Rangers a really proven & solid Dman to bolster his team...I get to add to my Staal collection, get a bit younger. The contracts are similar in length and salary (I save 1M in cap)....My only concern is if M.Staal can come back wihtout further issues resulting from his injuries, hence the 3rd rnd pick....very even deal.
thanks to the NYR GM for a smooth transaction
**response to some concerns below**
Marc Staal (at 25yrs old) has had serious concussion issues and hasn't played more than a few games since Feb of last year!, he has shown himself to be a 20-30 point player, but he has to play.
Paul Martin has proven to be a 25-33 point player (peaked at 37pts), is only 30yrs old (which is the start of a D-mans prime).
Both players are on fairly equal/similar teams....and when both are playing, their ice time will be similar.
If there was no concussion, i'd say swap the 3rd pick to his team, but we all know how head injuries can linger and continue to be a problem, hence i am taking the risk and get the pick.
btw, NYR GM offered me the deal (if anyone cares who sent the offer)

Please do not post polls, that's not how the system works.

No big deal, just letting other owners know so that there is no confusion.

i dont think martin is as good as staal plus the huge age difference i would like for some reasoning form the other team.

I think if it was Martin and a 3rd for Staal it would be more close to fair but still not even fair. Martin has played really bad this season and every time i have watched him he has has turned the puck over.
Veto.

i veto too martin is old and staal is going to be better next year plus there are two players in the league who might go easy on him.

veto staal is better and its not like this trade will ruin eachother teams but staal is worth more in fantasy and age wise. If it was not a keeper then it would be fine but it is. moving to veto'd trades

Not sure why this was vetoed. Will have a discussion with trade board members

We have discussed it and the trade council members have been notified about not vetoing so much as capitals said earlier on the chat box.

Jesus. You guys seem to think Marc Staal is a god or something. That is 2 out of 3 trades I have been involved in that have been vetoed and again both vetoed trades were way less veto worthy than the cam ward trade and the flyers/canes trade.
I think the Jets GM needs to be removed from the trade council.
He vetoed the two trades mentioned above but made a rip off offer that got approved for Cam Ward and offered me this:
"2012 1st round 2012 2nd round Carl Klingberg( top prospect)
FOR
Brad Richards Dan Girardi"

So for any trades that are put forward now they will not be vetoed unless it is obvious collusion?
