As in real life, there is a period of time following each season in which teams assess their strengths and weaknesses and begin to chart which free agents they might be interested in signing for the upcoming season. You will have to wait until June 1st to begin the off-season progress and sign free agents.
Off-season timeline:
* Post Free Agents, and Franchised Free Agents * Restricted Free Agents are eligible to be bid on * Prospect Draft * Official Free Agency is open to all GM's.
You will receive plenty of notice of all of these important dates. Please plan accordingly. Keep in mind trading is open all off-season beginning with the first day after the Stanley Cup Finals.
Prospect Draft
A 3 round annual draft of non-rostered prospects will be held following all seasons. The date the draft will start will be determined by the Commissioners with ample notice. The draft order will be based on the inverse of the standings from the previous season. This will not be a snake ordered draft.
All prospects salaries will likely be at the minimum, however, we will still use nhlnumbers.com as a reference for signed minor leaguers. Keep in mind; prospects with contracts over $1M cannot be put on a 15-Man prospect roster.
This draft is for prospects only. All prospects who were drafted in June will be eligible to be drafted, along with any prospect not on a roster. No player who has started their ELC may be drafted, only signed through Free Agency.
